In this performance Mette Edvardsen gives voice to the ghost light which is common in old theatres and is still in use in some places. The ghost lamp is an electric light, a light bulb on a high stand, that stays lit when the theatre is closed and is plunged into darkness. Its purpose is safety, but it is also said to ward away bad spirits or to guide the ghosts that are believed to haunt the theatre.
For this work Edvardsen is working with her long-time collaborator, light designer Bruno Pocheron. Together they are trying to bring out the voice of the ghost light, to let the lamp speak and hear what she has to say.
