He explores it as an archaic symbol of doom, but also as a force of nature \u2013 a warning. Is the plague a cruel reckoning, or nature\u2019s response to what no longer holds \u2013 a necessity, and perhaps a possibility for new forms to emerge?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The performance draws inspiration from David Lynch\u2019s experimental short film from 1967,\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Six Figures Getting Sick<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and unfolds as a feverish fantasy in which seven figures undergo a cycle of decay and transformation. They grind, jolt, twist, turn and force themselves out of their own skins, into dissolution \u2013 into a new day.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For the third time, Meland is collaborating with the electronic duo Smerz, who won two\u00a0Norwegian Grammy Awards\u00a0in 2026 for their album\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Big City Life<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Together, they create a theatrical universe in which sound and movement seem to influence one another. His artistic practice is driven by an enduring interest in the body&#8217;s potential to shift how we perceive and understand the world, and to resist what already exists. Through estrangement, imagination and fiction, his works challenge us to embrace more of what feels unfamiliar \u2013 and, in doing so, embrace more of one another. Meland&#8217;s artistic language is direct, raw and unapologetically physical, exploring existential relationships between destruction, dismantling and dissolution, and between creative force and growth. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meland trained at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and has been a member of Carte Blanche \u2013 Norwegian National Dance Company, since 2006. Meland\u2019s choreographic practice ranges from independent projects to commissioned works for companies such as the Iceland Dance Company, Teatr Groteska Krakow, Oslo Danse Ensemble and Carte Blanche.
