Dana Michel shakes off her fear of water in an iconic community pool in the Bergen suburbs.  <\/h2><\/div>                                        <div class=\"start-2 end-11 start-s-1 end-s-12 grid rg-20 standard\"><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Before\u00a0moving into a former pool, BIT presents a performance in\u00a0one\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0still\u00a0filled with\u00a0water.\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">YOU CANNOT CAN<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, is a new solo performance for swimming pools by\u00a0choreographer and dancer\u00a0Dana Michel. Surrounded by the audience, Michel wades around global histories and socio-economic realities of swimming and safe access to water.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dana Michel is a live artist\u00a0whose\u00a0works interact\u00a0with the\u00a0expanded fields of improvisation, choreography, sculpture, comedy, hip-hop, cinematography, techno, poetry, psychology,\u00a0dub\u00a0and social commentary to create a centrifuge of experience. In\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">YOU CANNOT CAN<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0she investigates the ability to swim as one of the ways in which we might embody self-trust. She wonders why, despite many attempts at learning, she still cannot feel at ease in the water. And what is it that holds back\u00a0the majority of\u00a0her family from swimming, despite hailing from an island that is surrounded by both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea?\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">How safe can you feel in the world if you cannot float in the liquid that makes\u00a0up a large part of your body? Later\u00a0Michel\u00a0has been\u00a0awarded the Silver Lion for Innovation in Dance at the Venice Biennale, the ANTI Festival International Prize for Live Art\u00a0in\u00a0Kuopio, Finland, the Jacqueline-Lemieux prize by Canada Council for the Arts in recognition of her contribution to dance in Canada and the Prix de la danse de Montr\u00e9al, International Distribution Category, presented by CINARS.\u00a0She\u00a0also\u00a0became the first ever dance artist in residence at the National Arts Centre, Canada\u00a0in 2018.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Based in Montr\u00e9al, Michel is currently touring five solo performance works: <em>YELLOW TOWEL<\/em>, <em>MERCURIAL
