My name is Vilde, I\u2019m 22 years old, and I study <\/span>Theatre Studies at the University of Bergen<\/span><\/a> (UiB). This spring, I\u2019ve had a student placement here at BIT, which I based my 2<\/span>nd<\/span> year bachelor\u2019s thesis on. My project focuses on Pr\u00f8verommet, as I\u2019m particularly interested in the unfinished aspects of the art presented there. What happens when art in progress meets an audience, and what makes it unique?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>I\u2019m interested in theatre, art, and everything that comes with it. In recent years, I\u2019ve been active in the Student Theatre Immaturus, involved in leadership roles, directing, playwriting and acting. I also got the opportunity to present something at Pr\u00f8verommet in the fall of 2024, which was my introduction to Pr\u00f8verommet and BIT. That experience sparked my interest in doing my placement here. <\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout the student placement, I\u2019ve written a small diary, and below are some excerpts from that diary.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n

7.2.25<\/strong> The Beginning<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Ready, set, go<\/span>, <\/span>and <\/span>we\u2019re<\/span> off. Internship nerves. Met producers, <\/span>curators<\/span>, and the people in charge. The important folks. Greet, smile, tell, learn. Talk about <\/span>Sentralbadet<\/span>, the art, and everything that comes with it. Try to learn what I need to learn.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One moment <\/span>you\u2019re<\/span> learning about <\/span>Verdensteatret<\/span> in a lecture, the next <\/span>you\u2019re<\/span> in a taxi with <\/span>Verdensteatret<\/span>!<\/span> Hanging up posters, <\/span>being a<\/span> parking attendant with a slightly too small reflective <\/span>vest<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span> talking with <\/span>Verdensteatret<\/span> after their performance.<\/span> Starstruck!!<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n

10.2.25<\/strong> The Office<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Introduced to the office. I <\/span>get<\/span> my own desk<\/span>, <\/span>hope it suits me. Cardboard boxes full of programs in the hallways, and incredibly good coffee. So many things to think about. What should I <\/span>write<\/span> my thesis <\/span>on<\/span>?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

13.2.25<\/strong> The Archive<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Digging through posters, <\/span>documents<\/span>, and moments. <\/span>Pr\u00f8verommet<\/span> has existed forever. At least<\/span> longer than me<\/span>. Wild.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

17.2.25 <\/strong>Pr\u00f8verommet at Nordnes sj\u00f8bad<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following Laurie<\/span> (<\/span>Curating<\/span> Producer <\/span>of<\/span> Pr\u00f8verommet)<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>Seeing what she does. Chlorine, bubbles, dirty laundry<\/span> sculpture<\/span>, underwater<\/span> sounds<\/span>, poetry in the sauna, a map of Spitsbergen, and project<\/span>ions <\/span>onto<\/span> water<\/span>. <\/span>I think I<\/span> want to write about the unfinished. All th<\/span>e<\/span> art<\/span> that\u2019s<\/span> being worked on. Art that\u2019s shown even though <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> still in progress. What an opportunity that is. To present your work without the pressure of it having to be finished. That must count for something.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Should it<\/span> start at six<\/span>? The film ends at quarter past? How long a break does the audience need? Over half an hour of performanc<\/span>e, <\/span>is that too much? Do they need a sound check? Work in progress needs frameworks. Production plan completed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Driving 280 glasses through <\/span>the cobblestone<\/span> city. Trying not to break them. <\/span>It\u2019s<\/span> fragile, this <\/span>organi<\/span>s<\/span>ing<\/span>. <\/span>Water tasting<\/span>, showing films, <\/span>speak<\/span> to <\/span>many <\/span>people<\/span>, smiling, answering questions. Cleaning up. Driving 280 glasses back through the cobblestone city.\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n

24.3.25<\/strong> Process<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Planning, <\/span>brainstorming<\/span> and discussing. <\/span>I\u2019ve<\/span> decided. I <\/span>must<\/span> write about <\/span>process<\/span>. What can it give? And what will it take? What does it need? <\/span>That\u2019s<\/span> what I <\/span>must<\/span> find out.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3.4.25<\/strong> Posters and reports<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Swimming in archive documents, diving <\/span>in old reports and posters. Trying to reflect and <\/span>contextualise<\/span>. Why <\/span>the need for a testing space?<\/span> The process and the moment. <\/span>Pr\u00f8verommet<\/span> a<\/span>s a meeting point, as a community. <\/span>Not only for the artists but the audience too.<\/span> And<\/span> for the staff. And me?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>28.4.25<\/strong> Pr\u00f8verommet<\/span> at \u00d8stre<\/span><\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Satirical goat cho<\/span>ir<\/span> and<\/span> inclusive<\/span> line dance. <\/span>I\u2019m<\/span> not a dancer, but the vibe was the best <\/span>I\u2019ve<\/span> seen in a while. I dared to take a bit more responsibility today. <\/span>Organi<\/span>s<\/span>ing<\/span> is <\/span>not easy. All credit to the producers. I think <\/span>Pr\u00f8verommet<\/span> at <\/span>\u00d8stre<\/span> will be important for my thesis. A lot of good material here<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

30.4.25<\/strong> Writing<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Write, write, write. Read, read, read. <\/span>Trying<\/span> to create a thesis based on everything <\/span>I\u2019ve<\/span> learned. <\/span>I\u2019ve<\/span> concluded that the cultural-political aspect is also important. All kinds of theatre and art should have space in the public sphere<\/span>, <\/span>even the kind you <\/span>don\u2019t<\/span> agree with. Who gets to decide what art has social value?\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

11.5.25 <\/strong>Pr\u00f8verommet<\/span> at <\/span>Galleri Kronborg<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Pr\u00f8verommet on a mountain. Su<\/span>n<\/span>n<\/span>y but windy<\/span>. Five days until I <\/span>submit<\/span> my bachelor thesis. I <\/span>have to<\/span> squeeze in something<\/span> about Galleri Kronborg. Too great a location to leave out of my thesis.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \n <\/div>\n

16.5.25<\/strong> Thesis Submitted<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m done. <\/span>Done with the placement and done with my thesis. Time went by fast. I think this will be an important experience to take with me, <\/span>because <\/span>these testing spaces are <\/span>rare. <\/span>My per<\/span>spective has been broadened<\/span>. <\/span>I<\/span>t\u2019s<\/span> been valuable to <\/span>literally get<\/span> behind the <\/span>scenes<\/span>, a<\/span>nd<\/span> finally <\/span>be <\/span>done with<\/span> my<\/span> bachelo<\/span>r <\/span>project<\/span>!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n

What is Pr\u00f8verommet?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pr\u00f8verommet has been running at BIT Teatergarasjen for over 25 years, popping up at various venues throughout the seasons since 2008. It\u2019s a space to try out new artistic material in front of an audience using any medium: dance, theatre, poetry, visual art, music\u2026 almost 2500 projects have been presented so far!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
