Prøverommet is BIT’s experimental arena – a playground for all creative people in Bergen. This unique and beloved concept has been around since 1998 and provides a low-threshold environment for trying out new artistic material in front of an audience. Dance, theatre, poetry, visual art, music; all formats are welcome! In the spring of 2026, the Prøverommet will appear every month in completely different venues, from Galleri Kronborg at Rundemannen mountain to the research vessel Atlas initiatief.

Open Call spring 2026

Would you like to perform and test something at Prøverommet this spring? Prøverommet is programmed through a continuous Open Call and by invitation. Prøverommet is a popular concept so make sure you apply as early as possible as the spots fill up quickly. It is also possible to submit proposals for this autumn’s Prøverommet.

How to apply:
Get in touch with Curating Producer of Prøverommet Frida Agerhus Vikström on frida@bitteater.no or +4741156570.

Anyone over 18 years old are welcome to apply, regardless of experience or education. Please send a short description of your project or alternatively get in touch if you would like a meeting or telephone conversation.

Remember that presenting new work, experiments and work-in-progress is Prøverommet’s main purpose (hence the name, roughly translated to ‘the rehearsal room/testing space’). Most often, several projects are presented on the same evening. For this reason, it is recommended that durational works are less than 20 minutes, with exceptions. The format is flexible; many events have been combined with workshops, publication launches, various forms of activism and more. Prøverommet provides practical and technical support for the presentation of projects, photo documentation and a small participation fee. There is no budget for travel. Letters of intent are sometimes possible to support participants’ own applications.

What is Prøverommet?

Prøverommet has been running since 1998, originally in BIT’s former venue Teatergarasjen for 10 years, now popping up at various venues throughout the seasons. It’s a low threshold environment to try out new artistic material in front of an audience using any medium: dance, theatre, poetry, visual art, music… The programme is open to participate in and attend, with at least 10 events per year. Almost 2500 projects have been presented so far!
