A monologue by Heiki Riipinen. Monomania is an outdated psychiatric diagnosis. However, obsession with a single truth, fixed ideas, and unreasonable reasoning is epidemic in our time. In a chaotic and complex world, we seek unified thinking – and the cure is unknown. MONOMANIA is the story of the hero without a goal. It’s an hour spent in a soft world. MONOMANIA is ME-ME-ME, US, ASHES, BLOOD and COCA-COLA.  The work is part of Riipinen’s multi-year investigation of retro culture as a phenomenon and problem, and the second performance to use a medical term as an arena for collective togetherness.

Bio

Heiki Riipinen works context-sensitively with theatre as an expanded practice. He alternates between working as a director, actor, playwright, dramaturge, costume designer, set designer, drag artist and curator. His work blends pop-cultural aesthetics with poetic speculation and political undertones – exploring themes of identity, power, failure, and the aesthetics of coexistence. He questions power structures, norms, gender, sexuality, social identity and herd mentality through fiction and speculation. Heiki is currently on the artistic advisory board for VælkommINN – a new festival and guest performance series by Teater Innlandet and Porsgrunn Internasjonale Teaterfestival.
