MERENDE for BIT (from lat. merenda, literal meaning: «things to deserve».) is a party and a habitat, an open space, a home, an elsewhere to radicalise the idea of being together and becoming a superorganism. It is an event where the only rule is to take off your shoes – a simple, harmless gesture, enough to reset your brain, to start looking outward, to open up. MERENDE moves between performance, installation, clubbing, care, and the exchange of practices and knowledge, care and a different way of knowing bodies. MERENDE is also the grand finale and closing party of the festival!

It all started in Rome in 2018. Industria Indipendente – a duo formed by Erika Z. Galli and Martina Ruggeri, active in the fields of performance, writing, and visual art – started experimenting with the concept of clubbing, which turned out to be a reference point for the Italian queer community and beyond, touring successfully. Each edition is built in dialogue with local contributors who offer services to MERENDE’s audience. For MERENDE for BIT in Bergen you can get your nails done by Tine Rude, BIT’s Managing Director!

Bio

Industria Indipendente is a Rome-based performing and visual arts collective founded by Erika Z. Galli and Martina Ruggeri. Their research is rooted in language – extended writing that inscribes itself onto bodies, environments, and surfaces. It transforms into action and performativity, liquefies, and expands through sound, voice, and light dissolving boundaries between self and others, here and elsewhere. Their research has generated hybrid formats and spaces as MERENDE, a site-specific, immersive queer habitat based on concepts of sharing and offering, in residence at Rome’s Angelo Mai since 2018. Under the aliases Bunny Dakota and 555 Industria Indipendente craft collaborative landscapes and performances, blending tattoo art, writing, and knowledge sharing with live music and DJ sets. Their works have been featured at international festivals and venues. In October 2024, they presented their first solo visual art show in Turin, BLUE BLUE BLUE LIMBO; a multisensory gymnasium installation in which they explored olfactory art for the first time. The project, created in collaboration with NERO Editions, will also launch a perfume next year.
