MERENDE for BIT (from lat. merenda, literal meaning: «things to deserve».) is a party and a habitat, an open space, a home, an elsewhere to radicalise the idea of being together and becoming a superorganism. It is an event where the only rule is to take off your shoes – a simple, harmless gesture, enough to reset your brain, to start looking outward, to open up. MERENDE moves between performance, installation, clubbing, care, and the exchange of practices and knowledge, care and a different way of knowing bodies. MERENDE is also the grand finale and closing party of the festival!
It all started in Rome in 2018. Industria Indipendente – a duo formed by Erika Z. Galli and Martina Ruggeri, active in the fields of performance, writing, and visual art – started experimenting with the concept of clubbing, which turned out to be a reference point for the Italian queer community and beyond, touring successfully. Each edition is built in dialogue with local contributors who offer services to MERENDE’s audience. For MERENDE for BIT in Bergen you can get your nails done by Tine Rude, BIT’s Managing Director!
