It is with enormous pride that we share the news that GRIP – a joint initiative by us, Bergen Kjøtt, AKKS, Carte Blanche, sound engineer Irene Bjørke and light technician Maja Bergebakken Sundt – has been awarded the CIMAM Outstanding Museum Practice Award, in competition with national museums from around the globe. This is the first time this award, one of the world’s most prestigious museum awards, has been given to a Norwegian project.
Eva Rowson from Bergen Kjøtt went to Italy to receive the award: “This is a tremendous recognition of the methods we have developed here in Bergen between our organisations. We have proven that it is possible to change an entire industry in record time.”
GRIP was started in 2021 to increase the proportion of female, non-binary and trans sound and light technicians in Norway, and has trained over 250 technicians, 93% of whom are women, non-binary and trans.
The next introductory course in lighting tech will be held at Bergen Kjøtt on Tuesday 9 December from 17:00–19:00. Sign up via AKKS Bergen!
GRIP is supported by Sparebanken Norge, Kulturrom, City of Bergen, Balansekunst, Vestland County Council and Feminist Futures (Creative Europe).
