Artist residencies

Since the early 2000s, BIT has been an active partner in European collaborative networks, and as part of this has been able to offer artists and companies in contemporary performing arts access to a wide range of international and local residency opportunities. While the scope of each project varies depending on the nature of the different networks, we generally aim to help artists connect with relevant residencies whenever possible. We are excited to finally be able to offer dedicated residency facilities when we move into Sentralbadet in 2026/early 2027. In the meantime, we are grateful for our great collaborations with partners in Bergen and Vestland, including AiR Bergen at USF Verftet, Rimi/Imir Scenekunst in Stavanger, and the Teaterfestivalen i Fjaler. We look forward to offering more opportunities for both local and international artists in the time to come.

Mutual Exchange – New Perspectives and Networks
We are happy to be part of the Norway-Italy Dance Residencies exchange – a collaborative initiative launched in 2024 that enables mutual residency exchanges for Italian and Norwegian dance artists, encouraging artistic collaboration between the two countries.

The Open Call for 2026 residencies is now live.

The exchange programme, which includes both Norwegian and Italian partners, facilitates a mutual exchange that strengthens the ties between the performing arts communities of the two countries. It provides artists with access to new creative impulses and professional networks. The project opens new doors for artistic partnership and establishes a solid foundation for further international collaboration within the field of dance.

The Norway-Italy Dance Residencies exchange is a collaborative initiative supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture – General Directorate for Performing Arts, PAHN – Performing Arts Hub Norway, the Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo, the Embassy of Norway in Rome, and coordinated by the New Italian Dance Platform and PAHN, in collaboration with eight residency partners from both countries: Bærum Kulturhus – Dance in Southeast Norway, Bergen Internasjonale Teater (BIT), DansiT – Choreographic Center, Davvi – Centre for Performing Arts, Anghiari Dance Hub, L’arboreto – Teatro Dimora, Fabbrica Europa, and Fondazione I Teatri.
