GRIP

BIT is proud to be a part of GRIP, an initiative started in 2021 by several organisations in Bergen including Bergen Kjøtt, AKKS Bergen, Carte Blanche, Bergen Internasjonale Teater and sound technician Irene Bjørke, in order to strengthen a greater diversity of people with technical expertise in Vestland. Together, we want to change that fact that women, non-binary and transgender people are underrepresented in the sound, light and AV engineering field.

Since 2021, GRIP has trained more than 200 people in sound engineering, including new sound technicians as well as teachers, musicians, youth workers, producers and curators who want to gain more knowledge and confidence in sound technology. In 2025 we launched introduction courses to train new light engineers for live events.

GRIP is open to everyone over the age of 18 (with no upper age limit) and has so far, 92% of GRIP participants are women, non-binary and transgender people.

For more information about GRIP, including upcoming course and how to sign up, please visit GRIP’s website.
