BIT and Bergen Kjøtt are collaborating to develop a new regional network dedicated to improving accessibility in the cultural sector. The project aims to ensure that more people can take part in culture – as audiences, artists, and employees.
About the project
This one-year pre-project lays the foundation for a regional network that promotes better accessibility across the cultural field in Vestland. The goal is to share knowledge, experience, and resources among cultural institutions and to identify common solutions for both physical and digital accessibility.
The project is based on the idea that what is necessary for some is good for all. By removing barriers for a few, we open up culture for many.
Why this matters
Many people still face barriers when participating in cultural life – whether as audiences, performers, or staff. Lack of information, physical accessibility, and coordination between organisations make participation difficult for many.
By working collaboratively across institutions, this project seeks to create lasting change. A more inclusive cultural sector is richer, more diverse, and more representative of the society we live in.
Plan
Throughout 2025 and 2026, the project will gather knowledge, identify needs, and build lasting collaborations among regional cultural actors. Through joint workshops and exchange of experience, the network aims to share competence, develop practical tools and resources, and strengthen accessibility efforts across the cultural sector.
This process will lead to a concrete plan for the continuation of the network, including recommendations for structure and follow-up steps.
