An experimental dance piece exploring failure and existential uncertainty

Inspired by moments of linguistic misunderstandings and everyday misalignment, choreographer Sanghoon Lee asks how failure can be choreographed.

Can failure be perceived as something to open up new avenues of our being? Sometimes, we expand our perspective when things do not turn out as intended, and sometimes those moments offer something profound.

“…a humorous, intelligent and uplifting show. … With Sometimes the directive may not work as planned, Lee has created a performance that in a subtle and comic way manages to reflect on and highlight the “fallibility” of humans” – Anna B. Watson, Norsk Shakespearetidsskrift

Bio

Sanghoon Lee is a choreographer, costume designer and performer based in Norway, originally from South Korea. He holds an MA in Choreography from the National Academy of Art in Oslo, after which he began working professionally as a choreographer. His artistic practice explores the existential nature of human beings by posing fundamental questions and examining them through the relationship between language and bodily movement. Central to his work is the dance score, which he uses as a bridge between these two territories, allowing him to pursue his artistic expression with philosophical resonance.
